Brainsnake is a game similar to Cards Against Humanity that gets students to draw connections between ideas, argue a contention, have fun and be humorous about an academic subject. Honestly I would say it is the best game I have ever made for academic purposes.
Set up
- teams of 3-4
- each team needs
- set of “Vote 1/2/3/4” cards
- a number card in front of them – this is the number you are in the game
- deal out 5 concept cards to each person
- 5-10 tokens in the middle of the table
Play
- turn over the A3 info sheet
- each person look at the 5 cards they have.
- each person picks the 2 cards that they think together best explain or can be applied to the picture
- place those two cards face up in front of yourself
- go around each person, they explain why their two cards best explain the A3 info sheet
- everyone takes one of their “Vote” cards and votes for one person whose explanation was the most convincing. put that ‘vote’ card face down in front of yourself
- turn over all the ‘vote’ cards
- the person with the most people who voted for their explanation wins the token for that round
- take each person’s 2 concept cards they used in that round and put then back in the pile
- shuffle all the used concept cards and deal out again until everyone has 5 again
- REPEAT!
Here are those rules:
(all PDFs on this site with passwords – it’s my last name)
All version of the game need the voting cards: (print double sided A4 in colour and probably also laminate)
And a set of numbers on cards just to identify each player with a number (so you can vote for their idea): (print double sided A4 in colour and probably also laminate)
Each game requires a set of “stimulus” A3 documents, and a set of concept cards. These are specific to the subject… The stimuli documents can be printed A3 in colour and probably don’t need laminating. The concept/playing cards should be printed double sided A4 and probably do need laminating.
